Our Vision

Learning in the 21st century is undergoing radical change.  All learners should have the confidence and capability to learn all the time, wherever they are, whatever the setting.  The four core elements of the 21st Century Learning Alliance’s vision are directed to achieving that change:

  • Teaching & Learning Methods. There is a place for passionate didactic whole-class teaching.  There are many other methods that schools should use if we want young people to become independent, collaborative and creative people.   Teaching and learning methods are the strongest asset of any school or college.
  • People, Resources & the Curriculum. A key characteristic of the 21st century learning community will be the value it attaches to its entire staff and professional development.  It will foster an ethos of professional research, collegiate cooperation and continuous improvement.
  • Time. The regular timetabled curriculum, a feature of many of today’s schools, will be enhanced by planned and evaluated opportunities for extended learning over days or weeks.  Students’ learning will not be constrained by the hours of the school day.
  • Space. Learning spaces will not only be safe, secure and welcoming and inspirational but also appropriate for the type of teaching and learning practices intended for them.

The 21st Century Learning Alliance aims to provide a unique and powerful forum with wide representation from practitioners, government agencies and industry. With its combined knowledge, skills, experience and networks the group will debate difficult and sensitive issues in an open and honest manner.

The 21st Century Learning Alliance will establish its credibility to stimulate improvement and change through contributing expert, evidence-based challenge and advice at the highest level. It will provide a robust link between key national educational organisations and commerce.
