In this paper, Professor Sir Tim Brighouse looks at the prevailing notions of ‘failure’ and explores these definitions with reference to historical texts and the Education Acts that continue to affect our education system today. Sir Tim argues that the culture of ‘failure’ becomes self-perpetuating and infects the aspirations of our young people.
