The key points of your article resonate with my experience working with a severely deprived school community in Morth London. I am constantly battling with the league table imperatives and the development of a holistic learning environment which is based on strong relationships. We do however have a beautiful new glass building which as you rightly say does not substitute for effective relationships but has significantly enhanced the learning environment and says very significantly for our community that their learning matters and that they matter.

This is a must read article, especially post-general election. Education and schools face both challenges and opportunities post-election, and Annika’s article certainly helps headteachers and policy-makers find the wood for the trees.
